Rudbeckia Sahara

One of my favourite blooms! The colours of this are perfect for Autumnal Bouquets. They are considered an annual and sometimes a tender perennial. I’ve overwintered them outside without protection from frosts and wind. But I still plant afresh every year to be on the safe side. The colours do vary from plant to plant, each one unique and beautiful.

How To Grow

Sow indoors in from Feb to April, you can direct sow after soils warm up in May but I think its too expensive a seed to chance! Cover with light compost or vermiculite. Needs approx 18-21 degrees in temperature to germinate and will take up to two weeks to sprout. Once seedlings reach a good size, pot on and harden off well before planting outside. They are slow enough growing. Plant 30-45cm apart (one to one and a half foot). Water well.

They are a cut and come again but do take time to send up new blooms, I find the two year old plants much more prolific. Alternatively do plant a good row of them!
