Dahlia Pom Pom
Dahlia Variabilis Pom Pom mix - new
Dahlias are such beautiful flowers! You can buy as tubers but can also try your luck with seeds. The difference is when you buy as tubers, they should be true to type, eg a cafe au lait. When you grow from seed it is like a lottery, some will be fabulous and others might be less interesting! Once grown from seed, they produce a tuber which can then be stored over winter to use the following year. Alternatively you can be ruthless and compost the tubers and resow the following year. Or you can leave in the ground to see if they overwinter (I lift my dahlias but others happily leave in the ground, it depends on the weather, your soil and the winter!) .Can be grown as an annual and kept as a Perennial.
Non - pictorial packs for growers. Pack contains the seeds in an innner envelope.
Seed Content : 100 seeds
Sow: Feb to April indoors, April/May direct sow outside (but this will be frost dependent so for more control I’d suggest sow in trays/pots)
Germination Instructions: Sow indoors onto moist well-drained seed compost in a seed tray. Propagate at 18°C. Germination takes 10-14 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle transplant to 8cm pots, handle the root system carefully. Grow on in cooler conditions 7-13°C. Harden off and plant out once danger of frost has passed .
Growing Instructions : Prefers fertile humus-rich well-drained soil enriched with organic matter and fertiliser in full sun. It is really important to pinch out growing tips to encourage bushy plants and stake where required.
Cultivation Instructions
Cut flowers or deadhead to prolong flowering window. Cut back to ground level in the autumn before lifting and storing the tuber for the winter. Propagate from softwood cuttings taken in spring from stored tubers or divide tubers ensuring each one has a viable bud.
