Atriplex hortensis Copper- Orach
Copper - note there is lower than expected germination on these so I am doubling the contents so you can double sow. The colour is so nice I thought it would be still worth growing!
Atriplex hortensis plumes Green also known as orach. I’ve been growing these for a few years, and initially it was for edibible reasons. The leaves can be eaten when they are small but I’ll admit I keep growing them for their appearance alone. They grow so tall and look beautiful in a garden. They can be used in flower arrangements too and left overwinter as their seed heads are very interesting too.
Germination Instructions You can start in seed trays earlier in the year (Jan/Feb), it germinates at 15-18degrees. Or sow directly from March. Sow directly. Surface sow onto prepared soil. Just cover seed with a sprinkling of soil. Ideal temp. 15-18°C. Germination takes 7-21 days approx. Thin seedlings as required to 30cm spacing.
Cultivation Instructions: Easy to grow and they self seed in the strangest of places!
When to Sow : March to May
Seed count approx 200 (you will receive double this so you can double sow as germination is lower than expected)
