Flower Seed Collection
Flowers have brought so much joy and beauty to mine and my family’s life. But more than that they’ve brought a mindfulness, a greater awareness of seasonality and a have been a form of therapy when my mother passed away. They are also a symbol of hope and faith in the future. That’s a lot of magic in one tiny seed! On a grey rainy January day like today my table is covered with seed packets and plans and dreams for the year ahead.
The seed collection began with an idea to share the joy of seeds. My journey to growing flowers began with a seed packet thrown with little care into a raised bed. But the flowers that grew from it, I’d never seen most of them in reality. before as I was always a grocery shop flower buyer, other that the odd gifted bouquet! From zinnias to cornflowers and many in between, each flower brought colour and pollinators to the garden. And eventually there was flowers for the house and flowers for neighbours and friends.
The seeds were chosen for ease of growth, suitability to growing outside in Ireland, for benefits to pollinators. A few of flowers are actually edible too! There is a specific mix for butterflies which is a mix of beautiful flowers. Chamomile is a herb, you can dry the flower heads for tea. Amaranthus is also an edible as well as adding some drama to a floral arrangement and it can be dried. It grows well outside in Ireland and benefits from pinching early on.
Sweet peas are straightforward to grow and they will keep flowering in a garden all summer long providing you keep picking flowers! There are three diffferent mixed varieties to choose from, all beautifully scented.
Sunflower growing is something that can be great to do with children, there’s enough seeds in the packet to share around a classroom! This is very tall yellow non-branching sunflower so can be fun to see who can grow the tallest each year. Also a must for natural bird feeding.
Inside each packet you will find a card with detailed growing instructions.
As well as a collection of 11 seeds there is also a number of non-pictorial seeds available. These include echinacea white swan, Antirrhinum (snapdragons), grasses and more. The collection is available to wholesale to gift stores or for corporate gifting, contact me for more information.
The beautiful seed packets were designed by Carlow designer Clare Jordan who I can’t thank enough! As always she goes beyond all expectations and makes magic! Thank you to Una O’Connor photography for taking such wonderful photos of the flowers and the seed packets, another lady who makes magic happen!
